American Sports Going Global - a good thing or bad?

When spring training ends in late March, the baseball players in the league are usually pretty excited to finally get to play for real. This year, a well-chosen team should be even more excited about the opening day of their games. Namely, the Dodgers, Padres, Athletics and Red Sox. Why? Because apart from the fact that it is the opening day, a memorable moment for any team, these four teams will play opening series overseas. The Dodgers play the Padres in China and the Boston Red Sox will face the Oakland Athletics in Japan, home of Boston ace pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.

These international games are organized in line with the current trend in American sports bring in foreign places. For example, last season the NFL held a regular season game in London, England, the NBA played a variety of exhibition games in China (mostly due to the condition of star Yao Ming), and MLS organized and participated in many international friendly matches and tournaments.

My question is what impact, if any, results in taking American sports global. And the impacts are worth it. To answer that question, ask the leagues. Is the NBA the same without Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitski or Pau Gasol? MLB is the same without David Ortiz and Albert Pujols? No. The fact of the matter is that American sports making to an international stage brings foreign talent that makes the league more competitive and the most interesting games for the fans, the fans, especially foreigners. Today, you could face the top five American NBA players against the top five international players and have a very competitive game. Would it have been the case 15 years ago when Jordan and Magic Johnson were playing? Not a chance.

Another reason why sports activities in foreign countries is a good thing becomes apparent when you take a look at business income. By attracting a larger audience base worldwide, the league of the NBA, MLB and other major sports earn more money. Clothing sales and royalties from televised games are the greatest of all time. The leagues are making more money which in turn allows them to plan for the future, invest your money wisely, and ultimately, improve the league. Any way you slice it, going global is a marked improvement.

But what about all the opponents who argue that foreign influences are changing the games that Americans have grown up with? Some feel that sports today are so different from the past that we can not call American sports. But now must be called international sports. And honestly, there is some truth in that. But if you take a look at how the sport has changed, you will see that evolution is to blame for the changes are not foreigners. Take for example the changes that have occurred in the NBA in recent years. On the day before basketball, shooting and passing grandmother rebound textbooks were the norm. In contrast to this style of play, the league today is governed by an ally oop dunks and crossovers. However, you have to wonder if these changes can be attributed to foreign influence. In my opinion, the changes can be attributed more to youth players like Lebron James and Allen Iverson of the foreign players.

In summary, with American sports world is a good thing. Lists of the leagues' are more talented and their wallets are fatter than ever. How can you argue with that?

Baseball - Five Reasons the Red Sox Should Be the AL Favorites

When thinking about the chances of the team that will represent the AL in the World Series, only a realistic possibility comes to mind - Boston Red Sox. Say what you will about the amount of money the Yankees have been playing, or the increase that has put the Angels in Los Angeles back in the top of the NL West, or the inspired play of the Tigers Detroit and Chicago White Sox (recently) in the Central Division. For me, the Red Sox are a breeze, and here's why:

    (1) The best bullpen - And when I say this, what I mean is that they have the best bullpen by far. For the moment. Statistically speaking, they were the best, with an ERA of 3.21 after Saturday's game, but you do not even tell the whole story. A lot of teams have a good fence, and a strong man set-up. In the Boston bullpen, just about everyone represents strength, if your 'Jonathan Papelbon, one of the best in the game "fire" to alleviate the medium and Manny Delcarmen, Ramon Ramirez, Takashi Soto, Hideki Okajima and Daniel Bard, no weakness for an opponent to exploit. And remember that when in a short series, the Red Sox will have at least a starter or two can be downloaded in a relief role. This means that besides Justin available for service relief over time, Masterson could even have John Smoltz for that purpose, and Daisuke Matsuzaka, if it is healthy at a time.

    (2) depth in the rotation - I do not know if you can win twenty games or not, but Tim Wakefield is definitely in good shape at the midpoint. His performance has been an advantage for the Red Sox. Brad Penny has taken a while to return, but has thrown well enough to win two-thirds of their decisions. Jon Lester and Josh Beckett has been mostly sizzling in the last month or so. This is not a swing beat, but this team should be able to plug holes with the above Smoltz, Masterson and Matszuzaka and Clay Buchholz. They have enough on the way to start reaching the target with momentum, although a couple of those headlines get lame.

    (3) David Ortiz - Ortiz had a brutal start and was hitting just .185 on June 1. You do not classified as red-hot now, but at least to move the ball much better, having hit seven homers in the month of June. His slugging percentage also increased more than 100 points from the beginning to the end of June. You can not post a large number of end of the season, but is once again becoming a useful member of the lineup, and the Red Sox could use that.

    (4) It has the best "Manny Deal" - while Manny Ramirez received a 50-game suspension for steroids, Jason Bay, who came from Pittsburgh in the three-way trade that sent Ramirez to Los Angeles, has brought some energy to the line without bringing chaos to the clubhouse. Bey is not affecting a high average, and actually was in a slump, but he was still leading the league in RBIs from 04 July, and his .535 slugging average was among the best in the league Americana. Surprisingly, the Red Sox do not have many home run hitters, and one of them (Mike Lowell) just went on the disabled list, and the bay has filled the void left by the departure of Ramirez. It was dangerous in key situations, at a time bumps eleven straight homers with men on base.

    (5) are winning games away from home - The Red Sox won 12 of their last 16 as the road July 4, and that's important, having won 25 of their first 36 home games. When you look at the pattern between this year and last, the Red Sox were 56-25 at Fenway Park last season, but had only a 39-42 road mark. This year looked like it might be more of the same, but if Boston can stay on the plateau of 0.500 on the road, they'll be in great shape to win the division title and made the best record in the league.

David Ortiz In 121 Runs and Hit

For a guy who almost never plays the field, giving David Ortiz Boston Red Sox a lot. Although Ortiz is usually no more than a designated hitter, still finds more than one way to contribute to your team. Also, you can do a good job at first base if asked, I do not think Ortiz is simply a one-dimensional player.

But when it comes to this, it really shines when Ortiz at the plate. At this point in the season Ortiz is hitting .287. This is not the best average in the world, but more than enough for a man of his stature. But Ortiz brings a lot of bats in the energy department. In addition to his batting average, Ortiz has played in 121 runs and hit 47 homers. These are big numbers, regardless of who you are, or what the team to play. To go along with this Ortiz also scored 99 runs himself. This just goes to show that Ortiz does more than just hitting the long ball.

At 30 years old, it seems that Ortiz is still strong. His bat is as lively as ever, and without having to play in the field of Ortiz arrives to save her legs day after day. This goes a long way in ensuring that Ortiz has a very long race.

If the Red Sox will win the World Series in 2006, Ortiz will have to play big in the playoffs again.

What's next for David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox?

We remember when David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon were the "bunch of idiots" who overcame the curse of the Bambino, leading the Boston Red Sox their first World Series in over 90 years. What nobody noticed at the time that his situation could have been an icon. Grandparents may have been passing along the stories of their individual feats for generations.

Manny Ramirez flew to quit in front of the fans. Johnny Damon flew to sign with the hated rival New York Yankees. However, Big Papi stayed, and while almost the leg for testing positive for drugs, he managed to survive the alarm, only to be at risk again.

Big Papi has become a surrogate grandfather of Red Sox faithful. Ortiz has always been there, metaphorically, at least for a little bounce on the knee when things were blue. And, always keeps a smile.

David Ortiz is back to being a feared hitter?

David Ortiz began his career as the first high-impact weak base for the Minnesota Twins in 1997. When he became a designated hitter and went to the Boston Red Sox in 2003, his offensive production suddenly went through the roof. He went from an average of 15 homers per year routinely hit 35 or more. Was hampered by injuries in 2008, and now seems to have forgotten how to hit for power or average in 2009.

The collapse of David Ortiz is something the whole community has been watching baseball in 2009. Some have questioned whether Ortiz could be feeling the effects of sudden withdrawal of steroids, something that has never admitted or have been charged. Others think the wrist injury last season is not yet healed. Some even believe that at the age of 34 years, David Ortiz has reached its peak and is simply too old to catch up with major league pitching.

In a perfect world, Boston Red Sox fans like Big Papi to open a daycare center at Fenway Park, and the grandfather of the next generation of New Englanders, giving them the same sense of humor and confidence that gave their parents during the "difficult years" in Boston.

Ortiz winning smile, his humor and body language for years win gave New England a rock in a world of positivism Puritan and dark.

Clouds are gathering up though. The witches are in the suburbs. David Ortiz is a free agent at a time could not be worse. With the disappearance of September 2011 playoff hopes Boston, Big Papi is contaminated again. There is a feeling that was somehow part of the problem, which could have or should have used his influence to have the whole team veteran. Instead, he made his now famous statement of panic.

However, Big Papi hit.309 with 29 homers and 96 RBIs last year. These are not exactly the statistics of a player on a losing streak. However, he has 36 years, and it would be hard to imagine that the maintenance of these statistics during a contract year 4 or 5.

In terms of numbers, and forgetting the iconic status of Ortiz in Boston, one could see a 3-year, $ 25 to $ 30 million. However, his agents want $ 12 million per year for 4 or 5 years. And the Red Sox can not commit to this when Prince Fielder to sign for $ 25 million a year for the same period.

And from the point of view of Ortiz, what is your market? Where there is a need for a left hand hitting first baseman or DH low end? Maybe the Yankees will want for the short porch, but we doubt it.

Our guess is that the Miami Marlins free agent talent search popularity to try to fill their stadium. Not receive any reputable young talent, but may be willing to settle for an old renowned talent like Daddy, and put him at first base.

How sad death of someone who might have had a statue in the Boston Commons.
