David Ortiz

For a guy who almost never plays the field, giving David Ortiz Boston Red Sox a lot. Although Ortiz is usually no more than a designated hitter, still finds more than one way to contribute to your team. Also, you can do a good job at first base if asked, I do not think Ortiz is simply a one-dimensional player.

But when it comes to this, it really shines when Ortiz at the plate. At this point in the season Ortiz is hitting .287. This is not the best average in the world, but more than enough for a man of his stature. But Ortiz brings a lot of bats in the energy department. In addition to his batting average, Ortiz has played in 121 runs and hit 47 homers. These are big numbers, regardless of who you are, or what the team to play. To go along with this Ortiz also scored 99 runs himself. This just goes to show that Ortiz does more than just hitting the long ball.

At 30 years old, it seems that Ortiz is still strong. His bat is as lively as ever, and without having to play in the field of Ortiz arrives to save her legs day after day. This goes a long way in ensuring that Ortiz has a very long race.

If the Red Sox will win the World Series in 2006, Ortiz will have to play big in the playoffs again.

We remember when David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon were the "bunch of idiots" who overcame the curse of the Bambino, leading the Boston Red Sox their first World Series in over 90 years. What nobody noticed at the time that his situation could have been an icon. Grandparents may have been passing along the stories of their individual feats for generations.

Manny Ramirez flew to quit in front of the fans. Johnny Damon flew to sign with the hated rival New York Yankees. However, Big Papi stayed, and while almost the leg for testing positive for drugs, he managed to survive the alarm, only to be at risk again.

Big Papi has become a surrogate grandfather of Red Sox faithful. Ortiz has always been there, metaphorically, at least for a little bounce on the knee when things were blue. And, always keeps a smile.

In a perfect world, Boston Red Sox fans like Big Papi to open a daycare center at Fenway Park, and the grandfather of the next generation of New Englanders, giving them the same sense of humor and confidence that gave their parents during the "difficult years" in Boston.

Ortiz winning smile, his humor and body language for years win gave New England a rock in a world of positivism Puritan and dark.

Clouds are gathering up though. The witches are in the suburbs. David Ortiz is a free agent at a time could not be worse. With the disappearance of September 2011 playoff hopes Boston, Big Papi is contaminated again. There is a feeling that was somehow part of the problem, which could have or should have used his influence to have the whole team veteran. Instead, he made his now famous statement of panic.

However, Big Papi hit.309 with 29 homers and 96 RBIs last year. These are not exactly the statistics of a player on a losing streak. However, he has 36 years, and it would be hard to imagine that the maintenance of these statistics during a contract year 4 or 5.

In terms of numbers, and forgetting the iconic status of Ortiz in Boston, one could see a 3-year, $ 25 to $ 30 million. However, his agents want $ 12 million per year for 4 or 5 years. And the Red Sox can not commit to this when Prince Fielder to sign for $ 25 million a year for the same period.

And from the point of view of Ortiz, what is your market? Where there is a need for a left hand hitting first baseman or DH low end? Maybe the Yankees will want for the short porch, but we doubt it.

Our guess is that the Miami Marlins free agent talent search popularity to try to fill their stadium. Not receive any reputable young talent, but may be willing to settle for an old renowned talent like Daddy, and put him at first base.

How sad death of someone who might have had a statue in the Boston Commons.
